The 3 Week DietThe 3 Week Diet is one of the best selling weight loss programs on the Internet right now. It was created by Brian Flatt, nutritionist, personal trainer, and author, and claims that you can lose 12 to 23 pounds (or 5-10 kg) of pure body fat in just 21 days.

Does the 3 week diet work?

Losing 1 pound of fat per day is actually not that strange.

A pound of body fat contains around 3500 calories, which is not that difficult for an overweight person to burn, because the basal metabolism is already higher than normal. The 3 Week Diet program is designed to rev up your fat burning hormones even further, while blocking your fat storage hormones and mechanisms.

For example, by eating foods that have a low insulin demand for those 3 weeks, you’ll substantially reduce your levels of insulin, a fat-storage hormone.

Another useful step in the diet is the use of natural supplements. These are mostly fat-burners, which I prefer, because they allow me to eat bigger servings and still lose weight. The supplements are optional, but useful for optimal results. They only cost around $10-20 for the 3 week program.

Exercise is also included as an optional step. Again, if you want optimal results, you have to add in the exercises. It’s only 15 minutes per session, and can be done from home. This will further increase your metabolism, and tone your body so you don’t become ’skinny fat’.

The two things I like best about the 3 Week Diet is the rapid results and the short duration. Instead of losing weight at a snail’s pace, the weight will come off so fast that you will see results day to day, which is motivating. Also, 3 weeks is a realistic time frame for a diet. Most people will not stay on a 12 to 24 week diet where you lose 1 pound per week. But most of us can stay on a diet for 3 weeks, even if it means cutting out some of our favorite foods.

Another thing that stood out to me was the 3 pound rule that ensures the weight stays off. After completing the diet, you weigh yourself every day at the same time, after voiding, and if at any time you’ve gained 3 pounds from your lowest weight, you simply restart the diet until you’ve lost those three pounds again. Typically, this only takes 1-2 days. This rule allows you to cheat now and then, and gorge on all your favorite foods, while ensuring that you always stay lean.

Finally, I like that the diet is based on real, wholesome, solid foods, not juices, meal replacements bars, powders, drinks, and so on.

The whole program consists of 4 manuals that cover everything you need to know. You’ll customize the diet according to your specific starting point based on, for instance, your body fat percentage. In short, you’ll know exactly what to eat, when, and how much. The entire package is very action-oriented. This is not a theoretical college text-book.

What if you want to lose more weight?

You can simply stay on the program until you’ve lost all the weight you desire to lose.

Bottom line

The 3 Week Diet works, but you have to be willing to give up your favorite foods for 3 weeks, and do the workouts for at least 45 minutes per week, and take some natural supplements for optimal results (to suppress appetite and boost metabolism). Those 3 weeks may not be the most fun you’ve ever had, but the results are quite rewarding. The hunger should be pretty low, but psychological cravings can still be present (comfort eating) that you have to resist.

Overall, I recommend this weight loss plan if you’re willing to put in the work for 3 weeks.
